Stanley “Stubby” Gunderson, 85, of Eleva, WI died Friday, December 2, 2022 at Meadowbrook Senior Living in Chetek, WI. He was born October 4, 1937 at home in Eleva; son of Palmer and Ida (Risen) Gunderson. Stanly grew up in Eleva after surviving polio at the age of three. Stubby graduated from Eleva-Strum High School.
On October 15, 1966 he married Betty Pederson at the Eleva Lutheran Church. They lived in the Eleva area all their lives and raised two sons. Stubby started his own business, Gunderson Sanitation which he owned and operated for fifty years.
He was an avid pool player, winning many tournaments. It was said that if you didn’t get to break, that you wouldn’t get a shot. Stubby also enjoyed bowling, and driving around with his dog, Bonnie on his lap.
He is survived by his sons, Paul and Mark (Tara) of Eleva; grandson, Brandon; brother, Phillip; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; siblings, Rebeka, Clayton, June, Alger, Eugene, Ellsworth; and his favorite dog, Bonnie.
Memorial services will be 11:00 am on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Eleva Lutheran Church with Pastor Karen Ressel officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at the Eleva Cemetery.
