Merlin Thompson Obituary

Merlin A. Thompson,79,of rural Mondovi, died Sunday, September 14, 2008 surrounded by his family at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi.\nHe was born on February 8, 1929 in Eau Claire, Wi to Martin and Agnes (Nelson) Thompson. He graduated from Mondovi High School in 1947.\nOn June 23, 1949, Merlin married Beverly Kruger, the love of his life, at Drammen Lutheran Church. They were married for 59 years.\nHe worked at the Eau Claire Farm Suppy feed Mill, then commuted to Waterloo, Iowa and worked at John Deere and at Uniroyal until retiring in 1990. Merlin and Beverly lived together in the town of Drammen until the time of his death.\nMerlin was a member of Drammen Lutheran Church where he served his Lord in many ways,from positions on the church council to Sunday School Teacher and Confirmation Mentor. Merlin took pride in having conversations with the youth in his later years and many people, young and old, will remember his knowledge and strength, as well as the example he set of being kind to everyone.\nMerlin enjoyed spending time at home with his wife and family. He loved feeding the ponies,dogs and cats, riding his garden tractor, working on projects in his shop, reading, doing crossword puzzles and writing in journals. Most of all, he devoted time to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Merlin took great pride in his family.\n\nMerlin is survived by his wife, Beverly of Mondovi; two children, Steven (Karen) Thompson of Eleva, and Kim (Kevin) Accola of Mondovi; Merlin was very proud of his grandchildren including Michael's sons, Matthew (Sarah) of Mondovi, and Marc (special friend Melissa) of Osseo; Stevens's children, Justin (Kate)of Eau Claire and Jessica (Dustin) of Cottage Grove, MN.; and Kim's children, Adam, Aaron and Anna all of Mondovi; his great-granddaughters, Matt and Sarah's daughters, Macayla and Kennedy and Justin and Kate's daughter Jordan, were also precious to him. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ione Kruger and his niece, Laurie (Jan) Hillman of Menomonie and her children, Jennifer (Ashley) Anderson, and Ben and Jon Hillman as well as his nieces Valerie ( Dan) Sabin and Linda Kruger all of Eau Claire.\nMerlin was Preceded in death by a son Michael James Thompson, his parents,an infant brother, a brother James Dale Thompson, Father-in-law Raymond Kruger, and Brother-in-law Ronald Kruger.
