Janet M. Thorson
Janet Marguerite Thorson, 91, of Mondovi passed away peacefully at the Homeplace in Mondovi on Saturday afternoon, May 31, 2014 with her family by her side.
Janet was born May 7, 1923 in rural Eau Claire County to Theodore and Johanna (Peterson) Miland and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was united in marriage to Marvin Thorson on October 24, 1942. They farmed in Buffalo County and achieved the honor of Century Farm in 1976. Following their years of farming they retired and moved to Mondovi. Marvin passed away in 1996.
To this union five children were born: Gerald (Cheryl) of Burnsville, MN; Barbara (Adrian) Pichler of Durand, WI; Dennis (Jane) of Mondovi, WI; Gene (Nancy) of Stevens Point, WI; and Joyce (Mike) Grimm of Waukesha, WI.
Upon reflection of her life, Janet stated her greatest joys were raising her five children, volunteering at the American Lutheran Home and at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi for many years making quilts, and helping with church functions and activities. She will be remembered for being a wife, mother and grandmother and also for her cooking and good homemade donuts and sandbakkels.
In addition to her children she is survived by her grandchildren: Jim (Jane Ann) Pichler of Breckenridge, TX; Chris (Michelle) Pichler of Mondovi, WI; Michelle (Jeff) Johnson of Nelson, WI; Dr. Matthew Thorson of Prior Lake, MN; Erik (Melissa) Thorson of Wauwatosa, WI;Dustin (Nikki) Thorson of New Ulm, MN; Rachel (Eric) Halverson of Greenfield, WI; Rebekah (Delton) Schlewitz of Mondovi, WI; Janet Grimm of Verona, WI; Jonathan (Kendra) Thorson of Elk Mound, WI; and Laura (Kyle) Bentzien of Newport Beach , CA. Also surviving are fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin, brothers James, Carl, Norman, Harold, Perry and Earl Miland and a stillborn sister.
Funeral services will be held at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Rolf Morck officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Mondovi. Lunch to follow in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
