Obituary

Harriet (Larson) Blum passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at her home in Pharr, Texas. She was 86 years old and suffered from dementia.

Harriet was the oldest child of Orville and Arlene (Thorson) Rud. Harriet was born May 7, 1937 in Mondovi, Wisconsin.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Jim.

After graduating from Mondovi High School, Harriet became a legal secretary and met her future husband Jim, an attorney. Harriet and Jim were married in 1957. With the arrival of her oldest son, James (Jim, Jr.), Harriet transitioned to a homemaker and later welcomed sons Daniel and Jonathan. With her husband Jim busy running his own law practice in Mondovi, Harriet put her farm experience to use assisting in the running of the Hereford Hills Ranch outside of Mondovi. The ranch was known for both cattle breeding (Polled Hereford) and dog breeding (American Eskimo). Throughout her entire life, Harriet always had an American Eskimo dog by her side. After her husband Jim took a position at a bank in Spokane, Washington, the family moved there. However, a few years later a bank vice president position opened for Jim in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and the family relocated there. In Stevens Point, Harriet became active in her church and the Christian Women’s Club. Harriet had a passion for baking and her baked goods were legendary.

Harriet is survived by her brothers Terry Rud of Eau Claire, Roger Rud of Eleva and Bob Rud of Eau Claire and sons Jim of San Juan, Texas, Dan of Vacaville, California and Jon of Pleasantville, New York. After retirement, Harriet and Jim moved to Pharr, Texas and became active with Children’s Haven International. Harriet was the grandmother of four: Ashley, Jason, Miranda and Oliver.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi.

Harriet will be laid to rest next to her husband Jim at the Riverside City Cemetery in Mondovi. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared at www.kjentvet-smithfuneralhome.com.
