Delbert E. Stelmach, 94, of Mondovi, surrendered his soul to the Lord Saturday, September 20, 2008 at The Homeplace in Mondovi, WI surrounded by his family.\nHe was born on February 25, 1914 in Arcadia to Peter and Maude ( Noel ) Stelmach. He married Martha Stamm in 1933 in Modena, WI. She died in January of 1958. On December 30, 1963 in Panama he married Sadie Haigh, who was his first wife's best friend.\nDelbert served as the Buffalo County Highway Commissioner, he built homes and farmed in the Mondovi area. He was a veteran of World War II in the European Theatre.\nDelbert was a loving grandfather, his grandchildren's visits to his farm were always very memorable.\nHe was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Modena and Zion Lutheran Church of Mondovi.\nDelbert is survived by two sons, Gary Peter (Wanda) Stelmach of Austin, TX, Leigh (Karran) Stelmach of Nashville, TN; an "adopted daughter", Nancy (Chuck) Polzer of Mondovi; seven grandchildren, Debbie Stelmach, Steven Stelmach, Mardi (David) Clissold, Kimberly (Chris) Witt, Timothy Stelmach, Jennifer Stelmach and Stefanie (Nick) Childers; two great grandchildren, Caleb and Austin Witt; nieces, nephews and other relatives.\nHe was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha and his second wife, Sadie; his parents; four sisters.
