Darlene Rae Insteness 77, of Strum, died peacefully Sunday, December 17th, 2023 at Mayo Hospital of Osseo. She was born November 1st, 1946 in Eau Claire to Adolph and Eileen Myren.
She graduated from Eleva-Strum Central High School in 1964 and received a degree in cosmetology at the Eau Claire School of Cosmetology. She worked as a beautician in Strum and Eleva for many years. She later worked at Ashley Furniture for over 10 years.
She married the love of her life, Bob Insteness on August 6th, 1966. They raised two children together, Blake and Jennifer. She and Bob enjoyed many years of camping in Chetek, WI. She held a special place in her heart for her “Wildwood Family”. She enjoyed many hobbies, including bowling at Club Midway, baking of any kind, golfing, and going to the casino. She loved doing things with Bob, her sister Cherie, and brother-in-law Terry, especially their trips to Deadwood. She especially enjoyed playing cards and dice games with her grandchildren from the time they could hold a card or a dice box. She was always there to support her grandchildren at any event; such as ball games, dance recitals, or choir concerts. She was their number one fan.
She is survived by her children, Blake (Jenny) Insteness and Jennifer (Wayne) Larson; four grandchildren, Caitlin and Madison Insteness, Alex (Ryanne) Larson, Shane (Pam) Larson; sister, Cheryl (Terry) Brekke; nephew, Tony Brekke; great nephews, Tristan and Benjamin; and many cousins and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her husband; her parents; father-in-law, Howard Skahaug and mother-in-law, Odella Skahaug; niece, Sarah Brekke; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Darlene was a fun-loving, spunky, caring woman with a heart of gold who will be missed by all whom had the pleasure of knowing her.
Darlene’s family would like to thank Dr. Nelson and the entire staff at Mayo Hospital of Osseo for their compassionate care of Darlene and all of us during her stay.
