Shirley Lynn Pederson, age 90, of Eleva, died on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand. She was born on December 12, 1926 in Eau Claire to James and Ruby (Adams) Harvey. She grew up on her family's farm in rural Mondovi and graduated from Mondovi High School. Shirley worked as a waitress and at Howard Insurance as a secretary. She was united in marriage to Melvin Pederson in Eleva. They ran a dairy farm in rural Eleva for many years. Melvin died on November 25, 2000. Shirley was a longtime member of Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi. She enjoyed listening to Gaithers hymns while doing puzzles or crocheting. She also loved camping and traveling. She was an excellent cook and made the world's best lefse and potato salad (according to her family). Most of all, she will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.
Shirley is survived by her four children, Roger (Debbie) Pederson of Columbia, MO, Mary (Joe) Ward of Durand, Jim (Jean) Pederson of Eau Claire, and Robert (Chris) Pederson of Eleva; ten grandchildren, Geremy, Scott, Heather, Jamie, John, Jim, Katy, Megan, Samantha, and Martha; twelve great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; son, Gerald Pederson; grandson, Joel Ward; parents; two sisters; and four brothers.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi with Reverend Rolf Morck officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
