Nicholas (Nick) Edwin Cook
93 of Mondovi, WI passed away on Thursday December 19, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Osseo, WI. Nick was born on February 3, 1920 to Glen and Louise ( Huntsman) Cook in Mondovi, WI. Nick was a graduate of Mondovi High School and married his first wife Marge, they later divorced. In 1944 he enlisted in the Navy, after his service he returned to Mondovi where he bought and ran Land-O-Lakes delivery route for many years. After finishing his delivery route in the mornings he painted in the afternoon. Years later he went to work at Presto Industries in the Artillery Division; after the plant closed he became a custodian at the Mondovi School District and continued painting. In 1972 he married Joyce (Synstad) Stamm in Mondovi. Nick was a member of the Mondovi American Legion post 154 and the Mondovi VFW Post 6711; he was also on the board of the Mondovi Thrift Store and a member of Central Lutheran Church. He loved attending the Badgers games and was a season ticket holder for 30 years. Nick enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and traveling with Joyce.
Survivors include; 4 children, Michael John Stamm of Orlando, FL, Steven ( Lisa) Stamm of Mondovi, WI, Lori ( Larry) LaBrec of Lewiston, MN, Lisa ( Joe) Olson of Ellsworth, WI. 15 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce, 3 children, Barbara Olson, John Cook, Jeannine Laehn. 2 brothers; Russell Cook, Roger Cook, and 1 sister; Marion Duncanson.
Services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11:00 am at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi with Rev. Rolf Morck officiating. Full Military Rights will be conducted by the Mondovi Veterans Group following services at the church. Visitation will be held on Sunday December 22, 2013 from 4-7pm at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi and one hour prior to service on Monday at the church.
