Janet Mildred Hiemer

Janet Mildred Hiemer, age 83, of Mondovi, died on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Dove Healthcare - West in Eau Claire. She was born on May 25, 1936 in Buffalo County, WI to Hiram and Mildred (Thompson) Ottum. She grew up in the area and graduated from Eau Claire High School. Janet worked in the Twin Cities before marrying Joseph Hiemer on September 17, 1955 in Modena. The couple farmed and raised their family in Modena. Janet was a devoted homemaker and mother. She was an excellent cook and gardener. She and Joe enjoyed traveling together. Janet also loved to eat lutefisk and jumbo shrimp. In recent years, she loved to play games with family, especially Yahtzee and cards.
Janet is survived by her three children, Richard Hiemer of Eleva, Jeffrey (Ruth) Hiemer of Mondovi, and Patty Palacios of Bloomington, MN; four grandchildren, Jordan Hiemer of Mondovi, Jared (Katelynn Monson) Hiemer of Eau Claire, and Joey and Josie Palacios, both of Bloomington, MN; two sisters, Jean Paul of Brandon, FL, and Joann Bartilson of Rock Hill, SC; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hiemer; parents, Hiram and Mildred Ottum; infant brother, Merle Ottum; and brother-in-law, John Paul.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home, Mondovi is assisting the family with arrangements.
