Delores Lillian Berg

Delores Lillian Berg, age 89 formerly of Eleva and a current resident of Strum, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, in Strum, with her family at her side. Delores Lillian Holte was born March 4, 1926 in Eau Claire, the oldest child of Palmer Holte and Esther Lillian Jones Holte. She attended the Hamlin Grade School and graduated from Eleva High School. Her father passed away when she was 17 and thereafter she assisted her mother with the caretaking of her younger brothers Robert (Sonny) and Warnie, and after her mother remarried, another brother Jimmy. She married Harold B Berg on August 19, 1944 in Eleva. They had two children, Rita Joan and Robert Allen who were also raised in Eleva. The Bergs farmed in rural Eleva until about 1970. They moved to a home in rural Strum/Osseo where they lived until about 2006 before returning to Eleva. Delores was a devoted member of Eleva Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She had resided at the Crystal Manor in Strum for the last four years. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She always remembered to send cards to her family and friends for their birthdays and anniversaries. She collected a great deal of special family photographs and memorabilia for her children. She was preceded in death by her parents Palmer, a step-father Jess Johnson in 1977, her mother Esther in 1980, her beloved husband Harold in 2008, her only daughter Rita J Ellifson in 2014 and three brothers, Robert Holte of Onalaska, Warren Dale Holte of Milwaukee and Jimmy Johnson of Black River Falls . She was also preceded by special friends Lorraine and Ernest Iverson as well as many aunts and uncles.She is survived by her son Robert (Marlys) Berg of Cushing, WI, son-in-law Steven Ellifson of Waukesha; six grandchildren: Matthew, Robert, Mark, Cyndi, Ryan and Mike; eleven great grandchildren: Jacob, Alexis, Nicholas, Brendon, Lily, Malia, Marshall. Cecilia, Samantha, Zack and Adelaide and a great-great grandson Mason, as well as special friends Karen and Verle Deetz of Eleva, a sister in law Norma Holte of Onalaska, nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016, 11:00am at the Eleva Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to the service, Pastor Robert Castro officiating.Two special songs from Delores's 1943 high school commencement, "Beautiful Savior" and "My God and I", will be sung at the service: Burial beside her husband will take place at the Eleva Lutheran Cemetery following the service.The family wishes to thank Crystal Lake Manor staff and St. Joseph's Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving care.
