Bernard Joseph Gruber, 79 of Mondovi, WI passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Oakwood Villa in Altoona, WI.
Bernard was born on April 1, 1936 in Albany Township, WI (Pepin CO) to Alex and Rosina (Weber) Gruber.
He graduated from Mondovi High School in 1953, joined the Military and served in the Army from 1955-1958.
After he returned from the Military he worked for Mondovi Implement for several years. He started dairy farming on the family farm with his brother Eugene to the present.
On September 14, 1963 he married his wife of 52 years Bonnie Jacobson at Sacred Heart Church in Mondovi.
Bernie was no doubt one of God's most avid sports fans ever created. He loved the Packers, Badgers and the Brewers, whatever sport was playing, Bernie was watching.
He also had a love for bowling and bowled for the Knights of Columbus enjoying their annual bowling trip. He started bowling at the Valley in Mondovi from the day it opened till it closed; he also bowled in Durand and Eau Claire. He was a member of the Mondovi High School Chain gang; he enjoyed playing cards with friends, and going to tractor pulls especially watching his sons pull garden tractors.
Survivors include his wife, sons; Derrick (Shari) of Mondovi, Chad (Kim) of Mondovi, one daughter; Angela (Chuck) Schuster of Oshkosh, WI.
Grandchildren; Ashley Brekke, Eric Pittman, Dalton Dregney, Deanna Dregney, Clay Gruber, Cloe Gruber, Carrie Schmitz, Father Daniel Schuster, Kathryn Douglas, Anna Schuster. 9 Great-grandchildren. Brother; Eugene (Carolyn) Gruber of Mondovi, sister; Elizabeth Bauer of Aurora, IL, many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother; Robert, sister; Dorothy Gruber, brother-in-law; Darold Bauer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Mondovi on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 11:30AM with a one hour visit prior to services starting at 10:30AM with Father Paul Bosco and Father Daniel Schuster officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Mondovi. Military Honors by the Mondovi American Legion Post 154.
Visitation will be held at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00PM.
