Norma Berge Obituary
Norma Constance Berge, age 92, of Strum, died on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Prairie Road Home in Strum. She was born on February 14, 1925 in Whitehall to Anton and Christine (Lovlien) Fremstad. Norma grew up on a farm in rural Pigeon Falls. She was baptized at Pigeon Lutheran Church and her confirmation was held there in Norwegian. She graduated from Whitehall High School in 1943 and went on to work at the courthouse as a secretary. She was united in marriage to Jewel Berge at Pigeon Lutheran Church on June 20, 1946. The couple made their home in Strum and raised five children. Norma helped her husband with the clerical work for his welding business. She later worked as a bookkeeper for the Eleva-Strum School District until her retirement in 1987. She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum, where she was active in the WELCA and shared many birthday, sympathy, and other cards. Norma always had words of wisdom and comfort for anyone who needed them. She was the rock of her family and supported them in all of their endeavors. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her five children, Jon "Tony" (Ruth Buchheit) Berge of Steamboat Springs, CO, Ingrid Guse of Fridley, MN, David (Colleen) Berge of Strum, Paul (Reenie) Berge of Chetek, and Peter (Rita) Berge of Strum; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Jewel Berge; son-in-law, Gerald Guse; parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum with Reverend Paul Tobiason officiating. Burial will follow at the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Pigeon Falls. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Wednesday, May 10th at the church and for one hour prior to the service.
