Lucille May Helm

Lucille May (Wik) Helm, 93, of Mondovi passed away peacefully Sunday November 23, 2014 at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi, WI. Lucille was born May 23, 1921, in the town of Lincoln, Buffalo County, WI; daughter of the late Reinhold and Elsie (Kaste) Wendt. She is the youngest of four sisters, Lillian, Idella and Doris. In 1928, the family moved to the Mondovi farm. Lucille graduated from Mondovi High School in 1939. Following high school, Lucille attended St. Francis School of Nursing in LaCrosse, WI, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She married John Wik on February 8, 1945 in Mondovi. To this marriage they had two children, Dennis and Rebecca. John died from a heart attack in October of 1970. Five years later, Lucille married a friend she had known as a teenager, Herb Helm. Herb later passed away while they were vacationing in Europe in 1982. Lucille worked as a nurse for more than 40 years in several Wisconsin cities: Neillsville, Menomonie, Waukesha, and Mondovi. Lucille was an active member of Central Lutheran Church and the Mondovi Senior Citizens Club. She loved to travel and take vacations often with her sisters, especially Doris. She loved to play games; she was always up for a game of 500, Scrabble or Cribbage. Lucille wasn't one to dwell on the difficulties in her life or complain. She lived a life of wisdom and perseverance. Lucille relied on her quiet faith in the Lord when confronted by life's challenges that included the heartbreaking deaths of two baby boys. She is survived by son Dennis (Edie) Wik, of Lineville, Iowa, and daughter Rebecca (Steve) Walters of Cottage Grove, WI., five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her two sons, sisters and one great-grandchild. Funeral Services will be at Central Lutheran Church, Monday, December 1, 2014 at 3:00PM, with visitation one hour prior to services from 2:00PM to 3:00PM. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Mondovi, WI.
