Darek Wood Obituary
Darek Mitchell Wood, age 32, of Brownsville, MN, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at his home. He was born on December 31, 1985 in La Crosse, WI to William and Patty (Laehn) Wood. He grew up in Reno, MN and attended schools in Caledonia and Leadership in La Crosse, WI. Darek enjoyed many different careers, including working as a roofer and auto mechanic. Most of all, he loved being a father to Mabel-Jean. He loved to cook, garden, and collect antiques. He was a very sensitive and intelligent man and taught his nieces and nephews many things. He loved his family and will always be remembered.
Darek is survived by his daughter, Mabel-Jean Wood of La Crosse, WI; fiancée, Kamera Jonsgaard of La Crosse, WI; parents, William and Patty Wood of Brownsville, MN; seven siblings, David Miller Wood of Stewartville, MN, Darin Marshall (Jessica) Wood of Chesapeake, VA, Daryl Matthew (Brenda) Wood of Dover, MN, Dawna Marie (Matt) Skaff of Brownsville, MN, Danny Michael (Samantha) Wood of La Crescent, MN, Damon Martin (Amber) Wood of La Crescent, MN, and Dayle Malcholm (Amanda) Wood of Caledonia, MN; 26 nieces and nephews; special cousin, Cory Jon Ellenberger; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Darcy Mae Wood; grandparents, DeVere and Phyllis Wood, Jerome "Bud" Laehn, and Kathryn and Henry Budzinski; and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home, Mondovi with Pastor William Reese officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Thursday, February 15 at the funeral home and again on Friday for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are preferred.
