Barry Mark Fjelstad

Barry Mark Fjelstad, age 63, of Strum, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, MN, after a courageous battle with cancer, with his family by his side. He was born on December 2, 1953 in Eau Claire to Richard and Iva (Teigen) Fjelstad. He grew up in Strum and graduated from Eleva-Strum High School in 1972. He worked at Uniroyal in Eau Claire and Fort Wayne, IN and later at Nestle in Eau Claire. On December 14, 1973, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mikki Olson. The couple made their home in Strum and welcomed three daughters and one son. Barry loved many things, including hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, but especially spending time with his family. He enjoyed many happy days at his cabin on the lake in Hayward. Barry was always smiling, laughing, and telling jokes. His family and friends will remember the fun, hardworking, generous, and loving man he was.
Barry is survived by his loving wife, Mikki Fjelstad; four children, Angie (Kent) Higley of Strum, Lynn (Mike) Hoch of Eleva, Jon (Ashley) Fjelstad of Pigeon Falls, and Amanda (Jeff) Erickson of Spooner; nine grandchildren, Mathew, Anna, and Nicholas Higley, Andrew and Bradley Hoch, Keaton and Brantley Fjelstad, and Taylor and McKenna Erickson; three brothers, Roger (Mary) Fjelstad of Eau Claire, Randy (Judy) Fjelstad of Cleghorn, and Greg (Darlene) Fjelstad of Strum; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Iva Fjelstad; brother, Steven Fjelstad; mother-in-law, Jackie Waitman; father-in-law, Larry Olson; and brother-in-law, Jeff Olson.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Eleva Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Castro officiating. Burial will follow at the Eleva Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Friday, September 8 at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home, Eleva and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
